There are 3 pathways for Chinese high school students to study in undergraduate courses in Australia. Two of them are transitional courses, Foundation and Diploma (Diploma courses, or freshman fast-track courses), as well as direct application to the Australian undergraduate course by using Chinese Gaokao result.
Diploma course is designed to take care of overseas students who have not received Australian education yet so that they have a period of adaptation and transition. Therefore, the school designed a first year diploma course to recruit Chinese high school graduates. After completing diploma courses and meeting the corresponding requirement, students can go directly to the second year of university. Only Monash and Adelaide universities have set up this course among the Group 8 universities in Australia. Almost all other universities have their own diploma course.

After completing a first year diploma course, student can go straightly to second year. Almost all universities other than the Group 8 Universities, including the famous ones like Macquarie University, University of Technology Sydney, Deakin University, University of Wollongong, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, University of South Australia and etc.

The first year of the diploma course is also flexible in terms of academic system and major settings. For those students who can't decide the direction of the major temporarily, they can decide the future major according to their interest in the first year of study.
To combine the Foundation Year with the first-year course, to concentrate the two-year course in one year, and to improve the use of language and study skills. On the basis of not wasting the time of learning professional knowledge, to quickly improve the ability of international students to the same level as Australian national students.
